(7) Things To Do To Maintain Your Mental Health While On Your Period

It is that lovely time of the month, mother nature has decided to sh*t on you again huh? lol

 I do not know about you, but when it comes to my period not only am I experiencing unbearable cramps, lower back pain and a migraine that makes me want to pull my head off of my body. My emotional and mental health  can be out of whack as well. I believe that the way you choose to take care of yourself during your menstrual cycle is important not only for your physical health but your mental health .

As someone who struggles with depressive thoughts, I have to be mindful of my body and mind during my time of the month. With that being said, these are some of the things I do to maintain my mental health during my period..

Be okay with taking more than one break.

In other words take as many as you need! This is not the time to be overworking yourself because it just leads to frustration and exhaustion. When those two come together it is not fun, so do not be afraid to give yourself "you" time when you need it, listen to your body and mind. Which is something I am definitely trying to get better at.


Why even fight it?  you know that 7 hours was not enough so you want to take that extra hour, there is no shame in that.


Just having that cleanliness especially when your on your period helps A LOT with clarity and just feeling better and lighter overall.  

Treat Yourself To Your Cravings

 I just came off my period and during that time I was craving sour gummy bears lol. So what did I do? I bought myself sour gummy bears and it was heavenly. Treat yourself! This is something us girls have to deal with every month we deserve a little unhealthy splurge without feeling guilty.

Light Exercise/yoga

I walk every where and I have found that it helps relieve my cramps as well as gives me time to clear my mind. Find out what works for you, maybe you are more of a yoga type person if that helps you clear your mind then go for it!

Cry/ Vent To Someone

I think we all know already that we can not talk about treatment in regards to mental health without talking about the essential advice of venting to someone. Not even just that but letting out a good solid cry always feels good! 

Hydrate! Drink Lots of Water 

This should of been the very first tip. Ladies we are loosing a huge amount of blood every month ( sorry TMI) but seriously it is easy to get dehydrated during our period and I know you know the feeling I am talking about. Drink Water Please.


  1. Great tips and so important as I struggle a lot with low moods before & during my period along with other great symptoms (sarcasm)! Rest, self care balance of doing/eating what I like but trying to keep to good foods that won't trigger migraines or digestive problems helps, and I've started taking a high dose of vitamin D3 to see if that also helps

  2. You've written some great tips here. I always get very emotional on my period but I find that gentle exercise really helps me. It also eases my cramps too. I agree with your point about drinking lots of water too as it's easy to forget!
