What Type Of Music Are You Listening To?
Have you ever thought about all the different types of songs that come out in our society and really listened to the lyrics? You have some songs that go from degrading women as objects to songs that literally promote pride and self loathing, killing, and adultery. It is kind of sad when you think about it, the fact that those themes are the type of content that a majority of our generation buys and listens to often.
Ever since I was a little kid my parents, especially my mom were always cautious about the shows my siblings and I would watch, what we would post on social media, the books we would read etc. Obviously now that I am older I have freedom in that, but the point is that because they showed me at a young age the importance of being cautious as to what you listen to and watch, I have adopted that mentality. I truly believe that whatever you feed to your mind and soul will eventually come out whether it is through your actions, personality, beliefs etc. Plus isn't that what is most important? Not just what your favorite song is but WHY? and what is the meaning behind it? I would hope that whatever type of song you are listening to whether it is rap, pop, country or even KPOP, that it is feeding you positive energy.
I went off on a rant there.. (lol)
Anyways, I was talking about music with one of my friends Halcja from the blog Halcja's Place and then she gave me a cool idea to write a list of a few of my favorite songs. I thought that was a fun and a great idea, so in no particular order, here are.......
I'll Find You
by Lecrae ft. Tori Kelly
" Just Fight A little Longer My Friend, Its All Worth It In The End, Cause When You Got Nobody To Turn To, Just Hold On And I'll Find You"
Lecrae recently dropped his new single "I'll Find You" featuring Tori Kelly and I knew the minute I saw both of their names together it was going to be a good one! I'm not a huge fan of rap but Lecrae is one of the few rappers that I love. Okay yes, it is mainly because he is a christian rapper, but really listen to his words in this song because it is a reassuring reminder that when we feel lost in this crazy life our God is always there to find us.
You'll Be Okay
by A Great Big World
"You'll Be Okay, You'll Be Okay, The Sun Will Rise, To Better Days"
This was a song that I heard playing in one of my favorite shows and I randomly became attached to it. It is simple, yet so true and during school it would be one of the songs I would listen to in the morning while getting ready.
I'm Into You
"Let Them Wonder How We Got This Far, Cause I Don't Really Need To Wonder At All, Cause After All This Time, I'm Still Into You"
I am sure we all know Paramore, and if you do not, you have officially been living under a rock so go check them out! I put one of the songs that has been just really fun for me to listen to. It may or may not be because that song reminds me of my crush but that is besides the point! (lol). I listened to this a lot while walking to class because it just got me going.
by: Alessa Cara ft Zedd
"All You Gotta Do Is Stay A Minute, Just Take Your Time, The Clock Is Ticking, So Stay"
Again, another fun song I would listen to while trying to get through the week!
Scars to Your Beautiful
by Alessa Cara
" She Don't See Her Prefect, She Don't Understand She's Worth It, All That Beauty Goes Deeper Than The Surface.."
I don't think it was until I heard this song that I finally internalized the idea of me being beautiful. I wish this song had came out when I was in middle school and high school because God knows I would of really needed it. Are you struggling with insecurities? Give this a listen, and please play it five or six times if you have to :).
By: Andra Day
"I'll Rise Up, I'll Rise Like The Day, I'll Rise Up, Inspite Of The Ache, I'll Rise a Thousand Times Again"
If you ever read my post called It Felt Good.. Atleast For The Moment ( which I definitely think you should if you have not already!) I opened up about my first time living away from home and how I felt like during that time I had let not only myself down but my parents. I didn't mention it in that post, but this song really got me through that rough patch of feeling guilty and ashamed. Andra Day has one of the most powerful voices in my opinion and this song is a testament to that. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
One Day You Will
by: Lady Antebellum
"You'll Find The Strength To Rise Above You Will Find Just What Your Made Of" .. "I Know Right Now That's Not The Way You Feel, But One Day You Will"
Wow, this song means so much to me and I am excited to share it with you all. For this song I want to take you back to the post I wrote about My Testimony- A Depression Survivor, because no matter what I was going through this was a song that I always referred back to during that time. Actually, one of my good friends from high school introduced me to this song because although she did not know exactly what was going on with me she had an idea and connected with me through showing me songs that ended up uplifting my spirits during the day. This is one song that really stuck with me over the years.
What songs do you have on repeat lately? Do you agree with my little rant at the beginning? Any thoughts? Comment Below and lets talk :)
P.S: Hey Friends :) Just want to say, Thank You so much for all your support! By the end of this month it will be a year since I started this blog! Do you have any ideas of a celebratory post I can do? Also, if you love what you have been reading so far definitely SUBSCRIBE! x
